Palo Cortado is the rarest and most unique type of sherry style and combines dark, grand Oloroso character with the soft palate feel of fine Amontillado. This stellar bottling has a rich, spicy nose with intense, exotic flavors and terrific length. A winner!
A mind-blowing sherry is the non-vintage Palo Cortado Peninsula Solera Reserva. Like all Lustau sherries except for the East India, it is made from the Palomino varietal. A dry, crisp, full-throttle, intense sherry offering incredibly complex, nutty aromas, it represents a style that falls between the Amontillado and the more oxidized, heavier Oloroso.
Dark amber in color, with maple, walnut and other sweet-meets-nutty aromas. It's a bit tangy, but being as zesty as it is propels maple, white chocolate and apricot flavors. This one has depth and a very long finish, which makes it a regal but still approachable palo cortado. Overall it's similar to an amontillado, but with more pulsing, piercing acidity.
