Cocchi's is widely regarded as the original Aperitivo Americano, and has been made continuously since 1891 using only natural ingredients. Based on a foundation of Moscato di Asti, the wine is fortified and then flavored with cinchona bark, along with citrus peel, gentian, cinchona, bitter orange peel, spices and other botanicals. These are then steeped in the wine over a period of time. In recent years Cocchi Americano has become a cult product in the circle of best sommelier and bartenders of the world. Largely unheard of only a year ago, Cocchi has turned the heads of scores of bartenders and thousands of curious drinkers in just a few short months. A lovely aperitif wine (or you can do like us, drinking it any time of the day or week) ? this is a delicious, fun and must-try product!! Drink it like the Italians, with a splash of club soda and a slice of orange or lemon peel with some ice, or try it in a Vesper cocktail (recipe below). Chances are you will become as hooked as we are!! Vesper Cocktail 3 oz Plymouth gin 1 oz vodka ? oz Cocchi Americano Aperitivo 1 lemon peel for garnish Add all the ingredients to a mixing glass and fill with ice. Stir, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Twist a slice of lemon peel over the drink, rub along the rim of the glass and drop it in. Tasting Note: T he complexity of this product is the first thing that surprises you. Notes of orange zest, orange flower and elderflower ron the nose, before more mature aromas of baked apple and pear drops emerge. On the palate there is a bitter-sweet balance as more bitter notes mingle with honey and citrus flavors, mainly orange and lemon zest. More wine-like characteristics become evident as the flavors develop into a long, vibrant finish, with the bitter and sweet notes remaining fresh until the end.
