Re-establishing New York?s legacy as a mecca for house-made spirits, one beautiful bottle at a time, Karl and Susan Johnson recently launched Denning?s Point Distillery in Beacon, New York. The distillery resides in a 2,800-square-foot renovated garage in one of the classic 19th century building in downtown Beacon. Spurred by the New York Farm Distillery Law, passed in 2007, there are now close to 40 craft distilleries in the state. Denning?s Point, named after the city?s scenic peninsula that reaches out into the mighty Hudson River, is Beacon?s first. They use Hudson Valley grains, and malt from the Finger Lakes region, to produce their spirits. From the Dennings Point Distillery website: ?Great 9 Gin is a celebration of the rich, verdant Hudson Valley and the original land patent for which it was named, the Great Nine Partners? Patent. It also represents the 9 fragrant and exotic botanicals that infuse this spirit.? Tasting Note: Bright notes of lively botanicals on the nose and palette, this gin is an infusion of young juniper berries, sour orange, grapefruit, coriander, sweet almond and five other proprietary herbs.
