Maison Dolin has been producing delicious vermouths since 1821. Still the standard bearer, their traditional French vermouths offer a great alternative to the Italian vermouths that have long dominated the market.
Using Alpine botanicals local to Chambéry, France’s only “designation of origin” for vermouth, there’s a reason this area is recognized for the exceptional aperitifs.
Today, vermouth is mostly used as a cocktail ingredient - Sweet/Rouge vermouth for Manhattans & Negronis or Dry vermouth in a classic martini. However, it’s origin as a quaffable aperitif to be enjoyed on its own or with a bit of seltzer has fallen by the wayside. Let me remind you of that joyous tradition and introduce you to Dolin Blanc!
Blanc or Bianco style vermouth combines the sweet nature of rouge/sweet vermouth with the lighter, crisper, more herbaceous elements of dry vermouth. Crafted using an aromatic base wine made from Jacquere grapes, fortified with unaged brandy and aromatized with a secret blend of 54 herbs. While we don’t know the botanical recipe, notes of chamomile, genepi, cinchona bark and rose petals all show on the nose.
Tasting Notes: Light, fresh and subtly sweet, Dolin Blanc tastes like spring rain falling on field of wild flowers (yeah, it’s that good). Highly aromatic and inviting, the nose showcases honey sweetness with notes of orange blossoms, freshly picked flowers, and stone fruits. On the palate, it is bright, complex and juicy with crisp, clean elements of fresh linen and wet stones. Enjoy on the rocks with a bit of orange zest; top with seltzer; or mix in a cocktail…
