Recently we featured one of the only rums in the world that is aged in two different casks, The Dos Maderas 5+5. Well this week we are back with one of their other offerings, the 5+3. To refresh your memory, Dos Maderas Rums are distilled in the Caribbean and aged for 5 years in American Oak Barrels and then shipped off to Spain. It?s in Jerez, Spain where they are then put the rum into used Dos Cortado VOS Sherry casks for an additional 3 years. Tasting Note: This is one of the most unique rums we?ve tasted in some time. This is not as heavy as the older 5+5 Rum from before. Dividing the aging process into two different stages converts Dos Maderas 5+3 into very special aged rum with a bouquet, flavor and aromas which are hard to compare. Toasted aromas in the mouth, with hints of vanilla and nut are extremely smooth and elegant.
