Besides it being from one of the coolest countries in the world, Reyka is also one of the smoothest, cleanest vodkas we?ve come across to date. Whereas many might argue that ?all vodka taste the same?, I really like their slogan ?In Iceland, the only vodka flavor we make is vodka flavored vodka?. Beat that for brilliance! As a vodka purist, this really spoke to me, and Reyka has since been one of my favorite brands as someone who stays true to their craft. Distilled from wheat and barley, Reyka is a small-batch, hand crafted spirit made from Icelandic spring water drawn from a 4,000 year old lava field that requires no demineralization before blending. Lava rocks are used to filter the vodka, because they are an abundant natural resource in Iceland, have a large surface area, and are porous, making them an ideal natural filtration system. The distillery uses all sustainable energy from geothermal heat (Reyka is derived from the ancient Icelandic word for ?steam?), and is considered the world?s first ?green? vodka. Besides tasting fabulously creamy and silky in a vodka martini, this high quality vodka will also sparkle in a cocktail ? try out the one below and judge for yourself. An incredible value!! Northern Light 2 ? oz Reyka vodka 1 /2 oz elderflower cordial such as St. Germain ? oz fresh lime juice 2-3 dashes Bittermen?s Hopped Grapefruit Bitters Splash pear cider Combine all ingredients except pear cider in a shaker, add ice, and stir with a barspoon for 20-30 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, top with pear cider and garnish with a lime wedge. Tasting Note: Aromas of cinnamon buns, hay, rose petals and stewed berries move into fruitcake like sweetness on the palate intermingled with lavender, caramel and spicy cedar. Delightful, oily texture with a clean, slightly peppery and herbal finish. To be sipped and savored
A sooty initial aroma; following aeration, enticing, dry notes of palm oil, unsalted butter, grain mash and slate emerge. The palate entry is bone dry as soot and slate tastes meld, then turn delightfully oily and textured. Clean, medium-weight.
