Time flies when you're drinking well?and of course spending time with your honey! In honor of the upcoming Valentine?s Day, we felt that a chocolate liqueur would be appropriate to celebrate this romantic holiday. A crème de cacao way above its competition in quality, Tempus Fugit has created a luscious, thick and incredibly flavorful blend of cacao from Venezuela and vanilla from Mexico in this chocolate flavored liqueur. The raw cacao is distilled and the distillate is then macerated with additional cacao and crushed whole vanilla bean. The process not only gives a depth of character, but also naturally colors the Crème de Cacao a medium brown. The term Crème was applied to these styles of spirits due to the creamy mouth-feel caused by the addition of a high concentration of sugar, in this case they use cane sugar. The finish of the Crème de Cacao is quite aromatic and round with intense, dusty-pure cacao flavors and light wisps of vanilla. Tempus Fugit Spirits (?Tempus Fugit? means ?time flies?), a leading force in American artisanal liqueurs, source and recreate fine, historic liquors that were once staples in classic pre-prohibition cocktails, but have been lost in time, and appeals to the most discerning connoisseur. Their focus is on what is often called a cocktail 'modifier'; those spirit-based ingredients used to transform whisky, gin, etc. into a cocktail. As these liqueurs were created in the past to be drunk alone, as aperitifs or digestifs, they avoid all industrial methods of making their spirits such as artificial flavors and colors. This is a rare gem to try out ? either on its own or in a cocktail such as the one below! SWEET AS CHOCOLATE 2 oz 360 Chocolate flavored vodka 1 oz Frangelico ½ oz Tempus Fugit Crème de Cacao Splash of cream Chocolate Syrup Crushed Oreos Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and pour in the vodka, Frangelico, Crème de Cacao and Cream, and shake vigorously. Rim a chilled martini glass with a mix of chocolate syrup and crushed Oreos. Pour the mixture from the shaker into the glass and add more cookie crumbles over the top of the drink. Tasting Note: Unctuous, syrupy thick, light molasses brown color. Off the charts sweetness and beaniness, with unequal amounts of cacao (two-thirds) and vanilla (one-third) fragrances in the opening whiffs; the powdered cocoa comes to the forefront in the second inhalations, lusciously so. Amazingly cocoa-like and buttery at entry; mid palate is spot-on dark chocolate-like, but neither bitter nor semisweet; it's just flat-out sweet. The suggestions are to either throw in a splash of soda water for a digestif or utilize this gummy liqueur in cocktails that call for crème de cacao. The best I've tasted, period." F.
