Our Broken Stones cuvee is Syrah based, with a large portion of Petite Sirah and Grenache and a splash of Mourvedre. It is aged for 18-20 months in mainly new, French barriques. It is full-bodied, rich, and intense, but also reveals great purity, focus and complexity. The Broken Stones is the only wine we make that is a multi-vineyard blend, utilizing all the vineyards that we source from. Our wines are never racked off their lees and are bottled unfined and unfiltered. Click here to download notes on previous releases of Broken Stones.
Up there with the great vintages of this cuvee, the 2014 Syrah Broken Stones offers incredible purity and elegance paired with blockbuster richness and depth. Giving up lots of sweet black raspberry fruit, crushed rock, a hint of chocolate and toasted spice, this beauty is full-bodied, unctuous and layered. I never find this cuvee to have quite as many layers as the other Syrahs, but this is beautiful. This is the only cuvee from Justin that comes from multiple vineyards.
